Social Work

At Boston Medical Center, we understand the impact of illness and related challenges on patients' and their loved ones' lives. Clinical social workers are available in many areas of the hospital to help patients and their families deal with the broad range of psychological issues and stress related to coping with illness and maintaining health.

Our role here at BMC is to promote health and reduce health inequities by advocating, educating and empowering patients and families. We provide resources to support access to care and reduce barriers to quality health care. We practice cultural humility and allow our patients to share their culture beliefs and the impact this may have on medical interventions, end of life and next steps.

Many of our patients come to Boston Medical Center for treatment of serious illness and part of their comprehensive care may include speaking with a social worker. Social workers provide patients with support during their treatment and recovery, act as a liaison between patients, their families and the medical teams, facilitate family meetings, and provide grief and bereavement support.

Request a Social Worker

Ask your nurse to put in a request for you to see a social worker.
We will make every effort to fulfill the request prior to discharge.

If you are discharged before the consult, below are some available resources.
